చాలామంది భారతీయులకు, నిన్నటి వరకు అమెరికా అంతిమ గమ్యస్థానంగా ఉండేది. కానీ ఇప్పుడు ఎంతోమంది మది నుంచి అమెరికా ‘కల’ నెమ్మదిగా కనుమరుగవుతోంది. అంతర్జాతీయ సంస్థ ‘కార్నెగీ ఎండోమెంట్’ నిర్వహించిన ఒక సర్వే ప్రకారం, భారతీయ అమెరికన్ సమాజంలో రోజురోజుకీ ఆందోళన పెరుగుతోంది. ఎంతోమంది ఇప్పుడు అమెరికాను విడిచి వెళ్లాలనుకుంటున్నారు. రాజకీయ, ఆర్థిక, సామాజిక ఒత్తిళ్ల కారణంగా 40 శాతం మంది భారతీయ అమెరికన్లు అగ్రరాజ్యం నుంచి శాశ్వతంగా వెళ్లిపోవాలని ఆలోచిస్తున్నారని సర్వేలో వెల్లడైంది.
డొనాల్డ్ ట్రంప్ రెండోసారి అధికారంలోకి వచ్చాక ఆయన అనుసరిస్తున్న విధానాలు వలసదారులను ఇబ్బంది పెడుతున్నాయి. ముఖ్యంగా అమెరికా అమెరికన్లకు మాత్రమే అనే నినాదం పట్ల వారు ఆందోళన చెందుతున్నారు. అమెరికాలో జీవన విధానాలు, ట్రంప్ ప్రభుత్వం తీరుపై యూగోవ్తో కలిసి కార్నెగీ ఎండోమెంట్ నిర్వహించిన సర్వేలో ఆసక్తికర విషయాలు వెల్లడయ్యాయి.
వివిధ కారణాల వల్ల, ప్రతి 10 మందిలో నలుగురు భారతీయులు అమెరికాను వీడాలనుకుంటున్నారు. రాజకీయ అస్థిరత కారణంగా తాము వెళ్లాలనుకుంటున్న వారు 58 శాతం మంది ఉన్నారు. జీవన వ్యయం కారణంగా 54 శాతం, వ్యక్తిగత భద్రత ఆందోళనతో 41 శాతం మంది అమెరికాను వీడాలని భావిస్తున్నారు. రెండోసారి ట్రంప్ పాలనపై తాము అసంతృప్తితో ఉన్నట్లు 71 శాతం మంది తెలిపారు. 2024-25 గణాంకాల ప్రకారం, అమెరికాలో 54 లక్షల మందికి పైగా భారతీయులు ఉన్నారు. అమెరికాలో వీరి వాటా 1.5 శాతంగా ఉంది.
ట్రంప్ అధికారంలోకి రాకముందు నుంచే అమెరికాకు అక్రమ వలసలు తగ్గుముఖం పట్టాయని ఈ సర్వే తెలిపింది. అయితే ట్రంప్ అధికారంలోకి వచ్చాక చట్టబద్ధ వలసలు భారీగా తగ్గినట్లు ఈ సర్వే తెలిపింది. అత్యధికంగా హెచ్1బీ వీసాలపై ఈ ప్రభావం కనిపించింది. గత సంవత్సరంలో ఈ వీసాల జారీ 25 శాతం మేర తగ్గిందని తెలిపింది. లక్ష డాలర్ల ఫీజు అమల్లోకి వచ్చాక వీసాల కోసం కంపెనీల నుంచి పిటిషన్లు 87 శాతం తగ్గుముఖం పట్టినట్లు ఈ సర్వే తన నివేదికలో తెలిపింది. ప్రస్తుత ఆర్థిక సంవత్సరంలో హెచ్1బీ వీసాలు మరింత తగ్గే అవకాశం ఉందని అంచనా వేసింది.

Until recently, the United States served as the ultimate destination for many Indians. However, the “American Dream” is now slowly fading from the minds of a significant number of people. According to a survey conducted by the international organization “Carnegie Endowment,” anxiety within the Indian-American community is growing day by day. Many are now contemplating leaving the United States. The survey revealed that 40 percent of Indian Americans are considering permanently departing the superpower due to political, economic, and social pressures.
Since Donald Trump assumed office for a second term, the policies he has pursued have caused distress among immigrants. In particular, they are deeply concerned about the slogan asserting that “America is for Americans only.” The survey, conducted by the Carnegie Endowment in collaboration with YouGov, revealed interesting insights regarding the quality of life in the U.S. and the conduct of the Trump administration.
For various reasons, four out of every ten Indians are considering leaving the United States. Specifically, 58 percent of respondents cited political instability as their primary motivation for wanting to leave. Additionally, 54 percent are considering leaving due to the high cost of living, while 41 percent are contemplating departure due to concerns regarding personal safety. 71 percent of respondents indicated that they were dissatisfied with Trump’s second term in office. According to 2024–25 statistics, there are over 5.4 million Indians residing in the United States. This demographic constitutes 1.5 percent of the U.S. population.
The survey revealed that illegal immigration to the United States had already begun to decline even before Trump assumed office. However, the survey noted that following Trump’s rise to power, legal immigration witnessed a significant drop. This impact was most pronounced regarding H-1B visas. The report indicated that the issuance of these visas declined by 25 percent over the past year. Furthermore, the survey stated in its report that following the implementation of a $100,000 fee, the number of visa petitions filed by companies plummeted by 87 percent. It projected that H-1B visa issuances are likely to decline even further during the current fiscal year.
