ఒడిశాలో ఘోర రైలు ప్రమాదం జరిగి 288 మంది వరకు మృతి చెందిన నేపథ్యంలో, రైల్వే శాఖ మంత్రి అశ్విని వైష్ణవ్ రాజీనామా చేయాలన్న డిమాండ్లు వినిపిస్తున్నాయి. అయితే, ఇప్పటివరకు అశ్విని వైష్ణవ్ నుంచి రాజీనామా ప్రకటనేదీ రాలేదు.
కాగా, గతంలో పలువురు రైల్వే మంత్రులు ఘోర ప్రమాదాలు జరిగిన సమయంలో నైతిక బాధ్యత వహిస్తూ తమ పదవులకు రాజీనామా చేసిన దృష్టాంతాలు ఉన్నాయి. లాల్ బహదూర్ శాస్త్రి జవహర్ లాల్ నెహ్రూ క్యాబినెట్లో రైల్వే మంత్రిగా పనిచేశారు.
1956లో ఆయన హయాంలో రెండు రైలు ప్రమాద ఘటనలు జరిగాయి. ఆగస్టులో ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ లో జరిగిన రైలు ప్రమాదంలో 112 మంది మరణించగా, లాల్ బహదూర్ శాస్త్రి రాజీనామా చేయగా, నాటి ప్రధాని నెహ్రూ ఆమోదించలేదు. ఆ తర్వాత నవంబరులో తమిళనాడులో జరిగిన రైలు ప్రమాదంలో 144 మంది మరణించారు. ఈ ఘటనతో లాల్ బహదూర్ శాస్త్రి రాజీనామా చేయగా, ఈసారి నెహ్రూ ఆ రాజీనామాను ఆమోదించారు.
ఆ తర్వాత 1999 ఆగస్టులో అసోంలో జరిగిన రైలు ప్రమాదంలో 290 మంది కన్నుమూశారు. ఆ సమయంలో నితీశ్ కుమార్ రైల్వే మంత్రిగా ఉన్నారు. ఆయన అసోం రైలు ప్రమాదానికి నైతిక బాధ్యత వహిస్తూ రాజీనామా చేశారు.
ప్రస్తుతం పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్ సీఎంగా ఉన్న మమతా బెనర్జీ గతంలో ఎన్డీయే సర్కారులో రైల్వే మంత్రిగా పనిచేశారు. 2000 సంవత్సరంలో రెండు రైలు ప్రమాదాలు జరగ్గా… మమతా రాజీనామా చేయగా… అప్పటి ప్రధాని అటల్ బిహారీ వాజ్ పేయి ఆమె రాజీనామాను ఆమోదించలేదు.
2016లో జరిగిన రైలు ప్రమాదాలకు అప్పటి సురేశ్ ప్రభు నైతిక బాధ్యతను స్వీకరించారు. కొంత సమయం వేచిచూడాలని ప్రధాని మోదీ కోరినా… ఆ తర్వాత నెలరోజులకే సురేశ్ ప్రభు రైల్వే మంత్రి పదవి నుంచి వైదొలిగారు.

However, there are instances in the past of former railway ministers resigning from their posts taking moral responsibility when serious accidents took place. Lal Bahadur Shastri served as Railway Minister in Jawahar Lal Nehru’s cabinet.
In 1956, two train accidents occurred during his tenure. In August, a train accident in Andhra Pradesh killed 112 people and Lal Bahadur Shastri resigned, which the then Prime Minister Nehru did not accept. Then in November, 144 people died in a train accident in Tamil Nadu. Lal Bahadur Shastri resigned due to this incident, this time Nehru accepted that resignation.
